A Memorial Vendor Show was held in Charleroi Fire Hall and Market House on Saturday, July 14, 2018. Many of the traditional favorite crafters and vendors were on hand. Proceeds from the event benefit the Deana Martorella Memorial Scholarship which awards $1,000 to a Charleroi senior high school female student.

Laurel Martorella, Deana’s mom, sits at the information table with pictures of her daughter, t-shirts, and info of suicide prevention and PTSD.

Martorella was a U.S. Marine, who although loved being one, decided to leave the service when her enlistment ended in 2015. After only a few months out of the service, suffering with PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome) related to combat, she took her own life. Proper avenues for help were not in place at the time for needed assistance.

Deana Martorella’s sister, Jill Taylor said the Memorial Vendor show, is very good for the scholarship fund. “Our main goal is keeping Deana’s memory alive,” said Taylor.

Deana’s mom, Laurel Martorella added, “We were looking for a way to give back to the area in which Deana grew up. Just look at all of the support we got today. The hall was full of people, and the show was a success.”
