The Monongahela Area Revitalization Corporation (MARC) is announcing that it will hold its first Christmas house decorating contest this holiday season, which will be sponsored by Community Bank.

Vinny, Elyse, and Tommy LaCarte of Carroll Township are pulling out Christmas decorations for the MARC/Community Bank 2017 Christmas Decorating Contest.

Participation is open to all residents in the City of Monongahela, New Eagle, and all of Carroll Township with a 15063 zip code.

The contest is FREE but participants must register. Homeowners must register or be nominated by an admirer in order to be judged. Judging will be based on curb appeal as viewed from the street only and will take place from 6-8 p.m. the week of December 11. Participants should ensure that all lights, animations, and decorations are in place and activated for the judging period. Winning homeowners will be awarded a congratulatory sign in their front yard on December 18 and will receive an 8”x10” color photo of their home’s Christmas display.

The contest is for exterior decorations, only including decorations in windows that are visible from the exterior and will include several categories. The categories include O Holy Night (The best display with a religious theme); Norman Rockwell (A classical, nostalgic, old-fashioned Christmas); Clark Griswold (A display with excessive use of outdoor lighting and decorations); Charlie Brown (The best decorations on a doghouse, tool shed, barn, detached garage, etc…anything but your house); Martha Stewart Would Be Proud! (Elegant, neat, and magazine-worthy); andBest Decorated Block (The street or block in a neighborhood that has the best lights and decorations). Businesses are also encouraged to participate in the Best Store Front category.

MARC is making this a free community event so that area residents will participate. Entry forms are available at the following locations: Community Bank, Cox Market, Sparkles by Shell, Devore Hardware, Little City Coffee, and Hills Restaurant. Entry forms may also berequested via email at marc15063@gmail.com.To be eligible, you must fill out and submit an entry form no later than 5 p.m. on December 8, 2017. MARC hopes to make the City of Monongahela and the surrounding area a Christmas showcase this holiday season.
