Hogmanay is the New Year’s celebration as followed in Scotland, and the Millers, as Scots Irish, will follow its customs as they end their 2017 season.
Members of the Pittsburgh Scottish Country Dancers will perform at the barn and they invite guests to join in and learn the dances.
Members of the Bethel Park String Orchestra will entertain at the log house.
Weather permitting, traditional games such as the caber toss and the rolling pin toss will be held on the grounds.
In the kitchen a haggis and other Scots dishes will be prepared and in the keeping room a tea will be displayed with typical dishes such as meat pies and Scotch Eggs, and cookies such as shortbread and scones.
At 4 p.m. guests are invited to join the Millers as they shoo out the old year and welcome in the new with the payment of debts, firing of muskets and banging of pans to scare out the bad of the old year and the greeting of the new year with an ode to the haggis, a toast to the new year, and the singing of Auld Lang Syne.
