Organization Helps Local Families Experience Holiday Joy
South Hills Interfaith Movement (SHIM) invites the community to make an impact during its second annual Angel Day, taking place Nov. 8. Angel Day is an online day of giving dedicated to raising funds to support SHIM’s holiday celebrations and the purchase of gift cards to ensure local families can enjoy a joyous holiday together.
Over the past several years, the need for basic needs – from food to clothing to critical community services – has grown significantly. SHIM hopes to help more South Hills families experience holiday joy by giving them the chance to select gifts to fulfill their children’s holiday wishes, practice budgeting skills learned at SHIM, and shop in a way that’s most convenient for them by providing them with gift cards for the season. The gift cards will be distributed to families who use SHIM’s food pantries at three holiday celebrations throughout November.
“Our celebrations allow families to connect with one another and join together for camaraderie, holiday cheer, a meal and more,” said Jim Guffey, executive director, SHIM. “Through the gift card program, we are able to empower families by giving them the opportunity to choose the gifts that best meet their children’s needs and wishes.”
The community can contribute to Angel Day on Nov. 8, by visiting SHIM’s website (http://shimcares.org/give/angel-day/). Volunteers are still needed to help with the holiday celebrations; community members can sign up by contacting Debi Dempsey at ddempsey@shimcares.org.
