On May 15, 2014, 8 year old Joey Fabus was diagnosed with Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG), an inoperable brain tumor located in the most essential part of the brain, the brain stem. Considered rare, DIPG attacks approximately 300 children per year.  Every child diagnosed with DIPG will die from DIPG, usually in less than a year.

On January 21, 2015, surrounded by his loving family, Joey Fabus died because of DIPG.

https://www.defeatdipg.org/dipg-facts/overview/what-is-dipg/">DIPG is considered a rare cancer and more research is needed to help find a cure. The https://www.facebook.com/JoeyFabusChildhoodCancerFoundation/?fref=mentions">Joey Fabus Childhood Cancer Foundation uses funds raised to help with that research.  After our first 5K in 2015, the foundation donated $50,000.  After last year’s 5K, we donated another $21,000.

This will be a great morning of strength and inspiration as the community comes together to fight the monster that is DIPG. We encourage you to wear a superhero shirt, mask, cape etc.  Joey loved Captain America among other superheroes, but everyone that knew Joey realizes that he was the closest thing to a real superhero any of us has ever known.
