The Centennial Service Challenge is a humanitarian initiative that brings Lions clubs around the world together in service.

“This is a special time for Lions Clubs International and our members,” said Past International President Preston. “For nearly 100 years, Lions clubs have served their communities and touched the lives of millions of people. The Centennial Service Challenge is an opportunity for Lions to celebrate our 100th anniversary by doing what we do best- serving others.”

Lions clubs have been to achieve the goal of serving at least 100 million people by participating in the association’s Global Service Action Campaigns, which support youth activities, vision programs, hunger initiatives, and environmental projects around the world.

The Monongahela Donora Area Lions Club was started in 2010 and chartered on January 14 with 21 members. At this time, they have 17 active members and are always looking for more. Here are some of our community services that the club has done:

1. We have a drive-through broom sale at Dierken’s Pharmacy.

2. A program is set up for people who need glasses and if they meet the criteria, we will purchase a pair for them.

3. We participate in the Halloween parade.

4. Every year we bring in Santa.

5. We sponsor a Leo’s Club at Madonna Catholic Regional School.

6. We have food drives at Foodland around the holidays.

7. We collect clothes for flood disaster with other clubs.

 8. We help Tubby Hall Park with their Easter egg hunt.

9. We give out two four-year scholarships to two Ringgold graduates.

10. We helped Donora Library find funds to upgrade their restrooms, put in ramps, and installed outside lighting. We also donated money to Monongahela Library.

11. We donated money to Monongahela Fire Company, New Eagle Fire Company and Donora Fire Company so that they can buy equipment.

12. We purchased a Braille reader for a person in New Eagle.
