The folllowing news and announcements were released by the South Park Historical Society.

October Meeting

The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, October 18 at 7 p.m. at the Library Fire Hall. The scheduled program is “Strange Tales for an Autumn Evening: A Martian Odyssey” with guest speaker Keith Bastianini. All Society meetings are open to the public at no charge and light refreshments are served.

November Meeting

This will be our annual “Show and Tell” program. Everyone is encouraged to bring an item in that would be of interest to the group.

Sleepy Hollow Clean-Up

The fall clean-up is scheduled by the Environmental Committee for Saturday, October 15. They will meet near the Girls Academy on Sleepy Hollow Road at 9:30 a.m. They walk the entire road while collecting many bags of trash, etc. The previous clean-ups have been very successful. Please join us, as volunteers are always welcome.

2017 Enjoy Book

The Enjoy Book is being sold by the Society for $30 and will be available at the Society’s meetings. In addition, anyone living in the South Park area can make arrangements for delivery of the Enjoy Book to their home by calling 412-833-8160. All sales benefit the South Park Historical Society Building Fund.

Society’s Book

The Society’s book, “Historical Snowden Township/South Park Township,” is available for sale at the South Park Township Library for $20 (tax included). Books can also be ordered by calling 412-835-9529 or 412-655-4104. For an additional $3.25 for postage, the book can be mailed to any destination.

Oldies Dance Bash

The Society is holding their annual Oldies Dance Bash on Saturday, November 12. It will be held at the Library Fire Hall from 5 – 10 p.m. Tickets are $30 per person – and you don’t have to be present to win a part of $4,250. There will be a dinner buffet by Cyd West-Comfort Catering. BYOB – mixers and beer included and music will be by DJ Todd Tkach. Every ticket has 2 chances to win with $250 awarded every half-hour from 5:30 – 9:30 p.m., $500 awarded every hour from 6 – 9 p.m., $1,000 awarded at 10 p.m., plus another $5,000 if this number wins the PA evening lottery on November 19. For tickets, call 412-835-0946. For reservations for 6 or more, call 412-835-0946 before November 6. No tickets will be sold at the door. All proceeds benefit the South Park Historical Society Building Fund.
