On Saturday, August 20, and Sunday, August 21 the members of the Oliver Miller Homestead set up camp as a frontier militia and drilled, cooked at the fire pit, shot their long rifles, and explained their role on the frontier.

The militia was formed to protect the frontier and later became an important part of the Revolutionary War troops. Men of good health from 15 to 65 were required to report for service with their own weapons. The Miller brothers were part of the militia and were renowned as sharpshooters who fought at the battle of Saratoga.
