This October 17, guest speaker Joshua Scully returns to the Charleroi Area Historical Society to speak this time on a topic which should be dear to all who live in this region, "The History of the Appalacians.”
Here's how he describes his presentation: "Appalachia has been one of the most significant regions in the history in the history of our nation. However, these mountains existed for nearly 500 million years before the Declaration of Independence was signed...These mountains have watched our world change, watched our nation grow, and have become embraced as the location of some beautiful landscapes that can be observed in the world today."
Joshua Scully is a graduate of California University of Pennsylvania, with a bachelor's degree in secondary education - social studies. During his time at California University, his studies focused on North American and Arctic history. He is employed by the Uniontown Area School District as a social studies teacher. He is a lifelong resident of Appalacia and very and very proud of the heritage that comes with living in this region.
