Shane McCormick On the Appalacian Trail

The AT is known as the longest hiking-only trail in the world, and follows the Appalachian Mountains from Georgia to Maine, through 14 states.

Shane began his adventure on March 6, 2018 at Amicalola Falls State Park in Georgia. Five months, two weeks, and one day later, he summited Mount Katahdin’s Baxter Peak, the northern terminus of the AT in Maine. Shane endured 6 weeks of below zero temperatures, blizzards and knee deep snow, as well as 90 degree temperatures, a forest fire, a black bear encounter, two straight weeks of rain and mud. What he took away from this adventure was far greater than he had anticipated. It was indeed, a life enriching experience.

Shane is a 2007 graduate of Ringgold High School and had also earned the Boy Scouts of America rank of Eagle Scout in 2007. Much of his enthusiasm for the outdoors was attributed to the experiences he gained from Troop 1452.
