Library News

Monessen Public Library & Cultural Center will present the South Hills Brass and their original musical production of the Dr. Seuss classic "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" on Monday, December 15 at 6 p.m.

The South Hills Brass, a traditional brass quintet, has sectioned the story with Christmas carols and features Ms. Catherine Deepas as storyteller and Mr. Michael Gilbert in the role of the Grinch. The program will also include selections or traditional Holiday music and conclude with the Canadian Brass arrangement of Handel's Hallelujah Chorus from the Messiah. Admission to the program is free.

Local children's author "Uncle" Dave Howard will be at the Monessen Public Library on Monday, December 15 from 4:30 -7 p.m. to discuss his children's books, including the award-winning book, Lady's Day to Play. The session, sponsored by the Friends of the Monessen Public library, will include a book discussion, question-and-answer session and book-signing. Copies of his books will also be available for purchase. For more information about Uncle Dave, please visit his website at http://www.uncledavesbooks.com/

A change has been made in the library wifi usage policy. Those who want to use the library's wifi will have to have a valid library card. When someone tries to access the wifi, he will be prompted for his library card number and password, which is the last 4 digits of the phone number provided to us.

Monessen Public Library & Cultural Center is selling the Enjoy Coupon Book as a fundraiser to support the operations and activities of the library. Books are available for a $30 donation at the front desk. The book pays for itself after using a few of the enclosed coupon offers. There are deals for dining out, sports activities, theatres, cultural events and even the dry cleaners. They make great holiday gifts!

Another great gift idea is the Book Lover's Calendar, which contains a year's worth of great authors, great books and great reading. The calendar is available for a $10 donation at the library.

The Holiday Boutique at the library features great Christmas stocking stuffers and gifts. The hours will be noon - 3 p.m. on days the library is open (Monday – Thursday and Saturday).

Monessen Public Library & Cultural Center will be closed on December 24, 25 and 31, as well as January 1.

A special craft hour will be held on Wednesday, December 10 at 5 p.m. to make holiday ornaments in the Children's Room. The Children's Christmas party will be on Monday, December 22 at 6 p.m. Santa Claus will be present to join in the fun and have his photo taken with children of all ages.
