Health

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, cancer will soon become the leading cause of death in the United States. The U.S. population is getting older and growing; more people will be in the age groups most likely to get cancer, so the total number of cancer cases and deaths is expanding.

Monongahela Valley Hospital (MVH) is expanding its popular Innovations in Medicine programming to include a three-part series on Oncology.

The series will kick off on Thursday, June 16, as Oleksandr Yergiyev, M.D. FRCPath, discusses “What is Cancer?” The programming continues on Thursday, June 23 when Andrew Zahalsky, M.D., outlines “How is Cancer Treated?” The series concludes on Thursday, June 30 when Carol Manown, RN, and Lisa Eicher, RN, shares “How Do I Live With Cancer?”

The programs will be held at 6 p.m. in the Anthony M. Lombardi Education Conference Center at MVH’s Carroll Township campus. Each session is expected to last approximately one hour. Light refreshments will be served. Parking is free.
