If you are seeking the best treatment available for your painful, arthritis- or injury- damaged hips and/or knees and you find it difficult to perform normal activities such as walking or climbing stairs, choose Monongahela Valley Hospital (MVH).
At MVH residents of the Monongahela Valley and surrounding areas receive expert hip and knee replacement care from the medical professionals that they know and trust — and the hospital has the credentials to prove it.
MVH is designated a Blue Distinction Center+ for Knee and Hip Replacement® by the BlueCross/BlueShield Association. The “+” designation is only given to facilities that deliver expertise and efficiency in delivering specialty care.
Blue Distinction Centers+ for Knee and Hip Replacement must first meet nationally established quality measures for Blue Distinction Centers — including fewer complications and readmissions — to be considered for designation as a Blue Distinction Center+.
To date, fewer than 400 facilities nationwide have been designated as Blue Distinction Centers+ for Knee and Hip Replacement. This distinction is yet another that MVH has earned for excellence in hip and knee replacement. Previously, the hospital received The Joint Commission: Disease Specific Certification in the Management of Joint Replacement — Hip and Knee; distinction as an AETNA Institute of Quality® Orthopedic Care Facility — Total Joint Replacement; 5-Stars for Orthopedics by Healthgrades®; and the Women’s Choice Award for Orthopedics.
Monongahela Valley Hospital provides comprehensive inpatient knee and hip replacement services, including total knee replacement and total hip replacement surgeries. In January 2013, the hospital introduced The Orthopedic Institute at Monongahela Valley Hospital, a comprehensive program that is based on a proven national model for hip and knee replacements. The program is structured around the fundamental principle of wellness.
“This is not your typical hospital program or hospital stay,” said Thomas F. Brockmeyer, M.D. Ph.D., medical director of the Institute. Dr. Brockmeyer is one of three orthopedic surgeons who, along with the administrative and clinical team at MVH developed this innovative program to improve outcomes and provide a superior experience for individuals having hip or knee replacement surgery.
“First and foremost, we do not see our patients as being sick,” Dr. Brockmeyer explained. “Instead, we see our patients as healthy individuals who are coming to the hospital because they have hip or knee pain, and want to live a better quality of life by having joint replacement surgery.”
