Health

The nutrition experts from Monongahela Valley Hospital and staff from the Center for Fitness and Health have teamed up to provide some free guidance about managing emotional eating, healthy holiday eating strategies, balanced nutrition tips and simple ways to achieve fitness and health benefits.

Called "Living Well Through the Seasons," this annual event exploring nutrition and fitness will be held Wednesday, October 22 at 1 p.m. in room 120 at the Mon-Vale HealthPLEX in Rostraver.

The event is free and open to the public.

MVH Executive Chef Phoebe Seiverling will provide a cooking demonstration and samples as part of the event. She will demonstrate how to prepare five-bean vegetarian chili, butternut squash cheddar shells — a spin on the classic mac and cheese — and a low-fat apple crisp.

"Our goal is to give our participants an interactive opportunity to learn how to prepare healthy foods, decrease stress and build activity into their daily schedules," said Michele Pfarr, clinical nutrition manager at MVH. "These lessons are useful not only during the holiday season but all year long."

She added that using even one or two tips from the presentation can help attendees lead healthier lifestyles.
