It was a festive evening at Monongahela Valley Hospital (MVH) on June 29 as the health system’s leadership and staff honored the members of the Auxiliary of Mon-Vale Health Resources, Inc.

“You frequently hear me tell our employees, ‘Take care of each other;’ but as Auxilians, you not only take care of each other — you take care of everyone,” said MVH President and CEO Louis J. Panza, Jr. “Whenever a need arises in the hospital, the members of this Auxiliary are always there asking, ‘How can we help?’ But, most of the time, you don’t ask. You just put on your pink jackets and show up ready to dive in.”

During the event, Auxiliary President Kay Blair presented two checks to Mr. Panza totaling $59,500. When combined with the funds that the Auxiliary donated to the hospital for its annual Gala in May, the 2015 portion its five-year pledge to the Capital Campaign and the Volunteen Scholarship, the Auxiliary’s 2015 donation totaled $61,000.

According to Mr. Panza, the funds will be used for a new security system to lock down the Emergency Department when situations pose a safety risk to patients and staff; a blanket warming device for patients receiving treatment in Radiation Oncology and Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy; along with new furnishings in the Same Day Surgery Waiting Room and the 7-East Oncology Family Room. This year’s gift brings the Auxiliary’s total donation to the hospital to approximately $3,240,000 during the past 37 years.

In addition, during the celebration, awards were presented to Auxiliary members who reached milestone hours of volunteering time at MVH. Auxilians recognized for 2,500, 1,000 and 500 hours of service include:
