Prostate cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in American men, behind only lung cancer. However, most men diagnosed with prostate cancer survive. In the United States today, more than 2.9 million men who have been diagnosed with prostate cancer at some point are still alive today largely due to early diagnosis.

Monongahela Valley Hospital is sponsoring a variety of informative programs this month. Many of the events will be held in the hospital’s Anthony M. Lombardi Education Conference Center (ECC) unless otherwise noted.

Hiram Gonzalez, M.D., a surgeon at Monongahela Valley Hospital (MVH), will discuss MVH’s weight control and wellness program during a free education session on Thursday, September 1 at 6 p.m. in the hospital’s Anthony M. Lombardi Education Conference Center.

St. Clair Hospital is conducting its annual free prostate screenings for men ages 50 and older.
