Two area high school students were among the recent recipients of college scholarships awarded by the Giant Oaks Garden Club, located in Peters Township. Ava Corry Roberts of Peters Township High School, and Katelyn Valla of Charleroi High School each were awarded scholarships.

All scholarship recipients have achieved outstanding academic achievements and are well rounded having a strong conviction for community services as well as a confirmation of plans to improve the environment now and in the future.
The scholarship program is one of the many service-oriented projects of the Giant Oaks Garden Club.
A special thanks to Cathy Rager, Scholarship Chair and her committee for their time, and continuous efforts in awarding these scholarships. The club members of GOGC are to be commended for their hard work in raising these funds every year.
Ava Corry Roberts of Peters Township High School received a $1,000 scholarship. She will major in Environmental Science at Baylor University.
Katelyn Valla, a graduate of Charleroi High School will major in Environmental Science at Hood College.
Valla was awarded a $1,500 scholarship by John Kelly in memory of his wife, Cheryl, a former GOGC member.
