The defending champions, the Union-Finley Area Athletic Association (UFAAA) Bronco baseball team won the 2017 championship game of the Bethel Church League (BCL) Bronco division playoffs on June 22.
They defeated their opponents in the first playoff game and advanced to the semi-finals, where they rallied from behind in the final inning to win by the score of 4 – 3. They enjoyed a playoffs sweep with a 6 – 4 victory over the 1st place team in the final game to retain the championship title.
The UFAAA Bronco team, led by head coach Bernie Wagner and coaches Vince Sucevich, Vince Mamie, and Troy Benson, ended the season in 2nd place with 9 wins, 2 ties and 2 losses. They are also back-to-back BCL Bronco champions, having won the BCL Bronco championship in 2016 as well, coincidentally on the exact same date.
After the game, Coach Wagner said, “I couldn’t be any prouder of this team. I’ve coached most of them since tee ball, and they have come a long way, not only as players, but as young men, too.” The UFAAA Bronco team players are: Aidan Angotti, Clayton Benson, Zach Cheplic, Jack Duncan, Hunter Mamie, Zane Mahoney, Jacob Pehowic, Nick Sinz, Travis Sucevich, Matthew Wagner, Michael Wagner, and Noah Winberg.
Bronco level players are ages 11 – 12. The UFAAA baseball teams play in the BCL league during the spring and fall seasons.
