On Friday, June 17, 2016, the Mid Mon Valley All Sports Hall of Fame honored area senior scholar athletes during its 23rd annual induction banquet at The Willow Room in Rostraver Township. Honoring the Mon Valley’s best and brightest in sports and in the classroom has been an integral part of the Sports Hall of Fame since 1995.
Area students are selected by Mon Valley athletic directors and high school principals and are recognized at the banquet for their academic and athletic accomplishments. The Sports Hall of Fame Committee awards a certificate of merit reflecting personal dedication to achieving the highest standards of excellence as a scholar and in sportsmanship.

Belle Vernon Area’s head wrestling coach, Mike Doppleheuer, and senior co-captain Mitchell Hartman, accept, on behalf of their team, the Class AAA WPIAL championship wrestling Belle Vernon Area Leopards Achievement Award. Randy Marino and Steve Russell of the Hall of Fame presented the awards.
Individual WPIAL championship BVA wrestling achievement awardees include senior Derek Verkleeren, 152 pounds, and sophomore Zachary Hartman, 132 pounds, with the presentation done by Randy Marino and Steve Russell.
Track and field individual WPIAL champion Raymond Sitton, 110m hurdles, of Monessen, and Maris Seto, high jump, of Brownsville, received the Hall of Fame Achievement award from Randy Marino.
