Healthy Steps for Older Adults

Monday, May 2 at 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Falls are the leading cause of injury-related hospital stays for older adults in PA and completing this program’s training session reinforces your desire to stay active and healthy in your own home.

Mother’s Day Spring Party

Friday, May 6 at 11 a.m. Register for a chance to win the Grand Prize Gift Basket filled with many great prizes. Come join in on the fun activities!

Canoe Trip

Thursday, May 12 at 11 a.m. - meet at the West Newton Senior Center for lunch, then depart to Youghiogheny Outfitters for a great day floating down the Yough. Cost: $30.

Coffee and Canvas

Thursday, May 26 at 1 to 3 p.m. or 6 to 8 p.m. Cost: $20 includes all supplies and instruction. Stop by the center to view the beautiful painting you will be painting. Please make your reservation and payment by May 19.

Angels of the Aging

 We are taking donations for welcome packets to be distributed to the elderly who are involved in the Westmoreland County Area Agency on Aging Guardianship Program. A few suggested items: combs, candy, packets of cookies and crackers, hand sanitizer, hand lotion, body powder, etc. Call for more suggestions. We also need help knitting and crocheting blankets (we supply the yarn).

 

Healthy Step In Motion Exercise Classes

Every Tuesday and Thursday at 12:30 p.m. we will have exercises to help reduce the risk of falling, build strength, and increase flexibility to improve movement and balance. These exercises are great for arthritis!

 Zumba Classes

Every Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. $6 per class. Join us - all ages, and work at your own pace.

Casino Trips for 2016

Cost per trip is $25. The cost includes bus, driver tip, and casino bonus. We depart from the West Newton Volunteer Fireman’s parking lot, Riverside Drive, West Newton, at 10 a.m. with a second stop at Rt. 70/Rt. 201 Belle Vernon Park ‘n’ Ride at 10:15 a.m. Cancellations are accepted only if you replace yourself. Call the center for a waitlist at 724-872-4976. Mail your check with your name and telephone number to West Newton Senior Center, 103 East Main St., West Newton, PA 15089. Every person traveling with us must sign a one-time release this year.

Thursday, May 19th – Travel to Columbiana, Ohio. Sharon Grove has planned a Tootie Fruitie tour where you receive a gift at each stop. At Das Dutch Cupboard, Bulk store and Bakery, you’ll receive a bag of sweet temptations. At Van Pelts Farm Market, you’ll receive a fruit bar and slice of angel food cake. At White House Fruit Farm, you’ll receive doughnut, drink and bag of apples. Lunch is at the Historic Spread Eagle Tavern, where you have your choice of roast pork loin or Swiss steak. We’ll stop at Steel Trolley Diner for Ice Cream. Stone’s Spring Vineyard is where you receive whiskey sticks and wine samples. When reserving, make sure to give choice of dinner. We are departing West Newton at 8 a.m. COST: $94 includes bus, all tips, tours and lunch.
