LifeSpan’s Mon Valley at Olympia Community Resource Center is nearing its grand opening this month. The relocation of the Mon Valley Center will increase the number of area seniors served while simultaneously increasing the quality and variety of services provided. The new 9,600-square-foot space located at the former Rite Aid location in the Olympia Shopping Center has many exciting features including:
Reception area offering the most current information on monthly activities. Request a tour and meet the staff and volunteers.
- Wi-Fi Café, where individuals 50 years of age and older can bring their laptops and catch up on emails while enjoying a cup of coffee, breakfast, or light healthy lunch.
- Information and Assistance Office, where a certified specialist is available by phone or in person to provide a wide array of resources and provide an essential link between the older adult population and appropriate needed services to meet their varied needs. LifeSpan’s I&A Specialist has access to a powerful computer data base that is regularly updated with assistance programs, helpful information, and available benefits.
- Sewing room complete with sewing machines for quilters.
- Computer lab available for individuals age 60 and older.
- TV room/lending library for individuals preferring a quiet setting.
- Conference room for informational speakers.
- Stationary exercise equipment room, complete with lockers and a flat screen TV.
- Open exercise area for aerobics, yoga, floor exercises, line dancing, etc. complete with flat screen TV.
- Complete kitchen and dining room that seats 250 for daily congregate meals and socials.
- Ceramics/art room complete with two kilns to fire the works of art.
Ample free parking is available on site. Port Authority bus routes #60 Crawford and #P76 Lincoln Highway Flyer are available for travel to and from the site. Seniors registered for OPT may use their e-purse account which charges $1 each way to visit any senior center located in Allegheny County.
Hours of operation for the new center are Monday and Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.; and the second Saturday of each month, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
