Seniors

By Jill Runfola

It was a full house at Monessen Center for Active Adults, 1925 Grand Blvd., on Monday, April 9, when everyone came together to enjoy the comedy show there that day.

Comedian Howard Mincone clowns with Monessen Site Manager Angela Sapone.

Howard Mincone, who classifies himself as a physical comedian and juggler, proved to be truly talented, as he had everyone in attendance laughing, even those he poked jabs at who entered the Center late.

Monessen site manager Angela Sapone, on site since September, is credited with scheduling the event. Center director Lisa Marchetti had sent her an email with several entertainers from which to choose. Sapone said the best part of working the older adults is “just the interaction of working with all the seniors.”

Mincone has been performing for 30 years and said, “I’m the most blessed person in the world to be able to do what I do.” Mincone’s states his greatest influences are Harpo Marx and Art Carney.

Born and raised in Clairton, Mincone currently resides in South Park. He has appeared at senior centers, schools, and even cruise ships and has his own website: www.howardmincone.com.

Former Monessen site manager Miko Green is hoping that events like this attract more seniors to the center, and said, “More seniors have to come here. They just have to come in and say ‘Wow, this is nice.’”

The late morning comedy show is just one example of the events available at the Center. Lunch is available at for a small donation daily. The Monessen center hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. For more information, the phone number is 724-684-6105, or visit them online at Monessen Senior Center – Home on Facebook.
