WCCF Trustees Richard White & Alex Paris present a check for $27,500 to Burgettstown School District.

Representatives from the Foundation’s Board of Trustees visited each of the districts to present the grants.

• Burgettstown Area School District, which received a grant of $27,500, is planning to use the funds for its “Redesigning Learning Project,” which will transform the existing Middle School/High School library into a 21st Century Media Center featuring a ceiling-mounted projector, interactive whiteboard, flexible seating, a creation station, as well as several iPads and Macbook Air laptops.
• Canon-McMillan School District will use its $12,000 grant to implement its “Dream, Design, Create, and Dream Some More Project” at Cecil Intermediate School. A MakerSpace environment will be created to give students the flexibility to shift between the unique phases of the engineering design process and make presentations for their classmates.
• Charleroi Area School District will launch the Cougar Literacy Café with its $15,000 in EIO Fund support. The Middle School/High School Library will be transformed into a space that offers cutting-edge technology and STEM (an acronym for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) educational opportunities. The district plans to purchase items such as iPad minis, an interactive whiteboard, a video camera, green screen, and 3-D printer for the facility.

Canon-McMillan administrators and teachers were delighted to meet with WCCF Trustees Richard White & Lynne Stout.

• Chartiers-Houston School District will use its $25,000 grant for updates to its Industrial Fabrication Facility that will enhance its existing STEM curriculum and provide opportunities for technical training within the high school. Purchases will include multiple computers, a 3-D printer, engraving machine, and vinyl cutter.

As part of the Commonwealth’s Educational Improvement Tax Credit Program, the EIO Fund awards grants to innovative educational programs at area public schools. To date, the WCCF has awarded more than $730,000 from the EIO Fund thanks to generous support from the following corporate sponsors: Allegheny Technologies, Audiology Doctors of PA, CONSOL Energy, EQT, First Commonwealth Bank, FTS International, Gateway Health Plan, Highmark, Northwest Savings Bank, Verizon, and Washington Financial.
