This award is the highest honor a middle school can receive. The goal of the award is to recognize middle schools achieving academic excellence based on a 37-step criteria established by the National Forum to Accelerate Middle Grades Reform.

Honor is given each year to high-performing middle schools. Schools are recognized for a three-year period. Elizabeth Forward was among 28 schools in Pennsylvania and 300 in the nation to win one of the top schools in the country.
