The Awards Assembly at Ringgold Middle School was held on Friday, June 6, 2014. During the assembly, the American Legion award winners were announced. The American Legion Post 613 of Finleyville, American Legion Post 949 of Monongahela, and American Legion Post 513 of Donora were involved in the awards ceremony this year.

The American Legion Post 613 was represented by Mr. John Koller (Commander), Mr. Ruffo Proviano (Chaplin), and Mr. Bob Jones (Vice Commander). The American Legion Award places emphasis on the development of the qualities of Courage, Honor, Leadership, Patriotism, Scholarship and Service --- the ideals of Americanism which will make young people citizens of the highest type. The award recognizes the boy and girl who is most worthy of the highest qualities of citizenship and of true Americanism. This year's recipients are Alexander Bottino and Hanna Gosliak.
Mr. James Ferguson worked with the American Legion Post 949 and our social studies teachers to encourage students to write an essay titled, "How can we support our local veterans and their families?" Mr. Al Hupchak of the American Legion and Mr. James Ferguson presented a monetary gift to the winners of this essay contest. The winners of this essay contest included Erica Glaneman (8th grade), Tanner Smida (7th grade), Anjolina Hryko (6th grade), Michael Moss (6th grade), and Adam Telegraphis (6th grade).
The Ernest E. Jobes American Legion Auxiliary Unit also held an essay contest this year for students. The essay was titled, "How can I show my pride in being and American?" This contest is done yearly and is supported by the Pennsylvania American Legion Auxiliary Unit. There are five different classes (categories) that can participate; Class I – Grades 3 and 4, Class II- Grades 5 and 6, Class III- Grades 7 and 8, Class IV – Grades 9 and 10, and Class V- Grades 11 and 12. the local units first. The winners then proceed onto county for judging and then to the depart level for judging. Mr. James Ferguson presented the local award winners a monetary gift. The winners included Jonathan Boccella (7th grade), Dominica Kortyna (7th grade), and Paige Mihalik (6th grade).
