After months of interviewing prospective candidates for superintendent, the Peters Township School Board unanimously made their selection at their June 10 meeting. Their choice was Jeannine L. French, 46, who is presently Deputy Superintendent at Pittsburgh Public Schools.
French replaces former Superintendent Nina Zetty, who left last fall to become the superintendent at Gateway Public Schools.
French was chosen from among at least 12 other candidates in a nationwide search by the school board. She was with Pittsburgh Public Schools for 16 years as a behavior specialist, a performance leader, a principal, the director of the Middle Alternative School and, most recently, the deputy superintendent. A Pittsburgh Public Schools press release called French “extremely talented” and stated: “We are sad to see her leave. Dr. French’s commitment to the children of the Pittsburgh Public Schools has been unmatched.” She has a doctoral degree in clinical psychology from Duquesne University and a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Allegheny College.
The new superintendent will receive a 5-year contract starting July 1 based upon a salary of $160,000 per year plus benefits. She will be the highest paid school superintendent in Washington County and in the neighboring South Hills communities including South Fayette, Upper St. Clair, Mt. Lebanon and Bethel Park. French told the school board that she was honored to be selected, and she “looks forward for the opportunity to lead Peters Township Schools”.
Serving as acting superintendent in the interim has been Joseph Dimperio, a retired educational consultant who indicated early on that he was not interested in the permanent position.
