Two new categories of McClellan Elementary School “ROCK Star” students were recognized by the West Jefferson Hills School District Board during a recent monthly meeting.

MCES Board Recognition

Each month, McClellan principal Justin Liberatore and staff select McClellan students for demonstrating these ROCK Star qualities:

  • Respect others
  • Obey all rules
  • Care for one another
  • Keeping hands and feet to themselves

The ROCK Stars are treated to a VIP entrance and red carpet one day at school, along with donut and dance party. Earlier this school year, Liberatore added two locations outside of the classroom for ROCK Star consideration - the cafeteria and school bus.

The McClellan students were recognized and received certificates from members of the cafeteria staff and bus drivers at the Board meeting:

Cafeteria Rock Stars

October - Connor Comstock, Kindergarten

November - Reyansh Khatiwada, 2nd grade

December - Marley Black, 1st grade

January - River Turner, 2nd grade

February - Ashika Magar, 1st grade

March - Ridley Hartman, 2nd grade

April - Morgan Powell, 1st grade

Bus Rock Stars

WJHSD Superintendent Dr. Janet Sardon led a moment of silence for former Thomas Jefferson softball coach John “Hoppy” Mitruski, who passed away on May 19. Mitruski taught and coached for more than 30 years in the District. He was TJ's head softball coach for 33 years, retiring as head coach in 2012, and served as an assistant coach this season. Mitruski made a positive impact on hundreds of students and the community.
