Rep. Bud Cook (R-Washington/Fayette) recently announced approximately $70,000 in Safe Schools Targeted Grants were awarded to school districts in the 49th Legislative District.

“Recognizing that each school’s needs are different, these targeted school safety grants can be used for a variety of tools to prevent violence, including metal detectors, school resource officers, school safety assessments and preplanning, and other upgrades to ensure a safe learning environment,” said Cook. “I was pleased to support this worthwhile grant program as part of the final 2018-19 state budget.”

District 49 school districts receiving these grants are as follows:

  • Charleroi Area School District – $30,000.
  • Ringgold School District – $40,000.

The grant program, funded through the state budget, assists schools with paying for programs to prevent and reduce violent incidents in schools, purchase safety and security-related equipment, and provide for the training and compensation of school resource officers (SRO) and school police officers (SPO).
