First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), located at 61 Walnut Ridge Road, Charleroi, can be reached at 724-489-9014. There are many exciting things happening at the First Christian Church of Charleroi this Christmas season:
The annual Empty Chair Memorial Service is on Monday December 7, 2015 at 7 p.m. This is an evening of scripture, music, a meditation by the pastor, lighting candles in memory of loved ones and placing stars on the memory tree. This is for those who have recently had loved ones go with the Lord or for who have been gone for many years. A reception will follow in the social hall.
The annual Community Christmas Cantata will be on Sunday December 13, 2015 at 3 p.m. The music featured will be “Season of Praise” by Joseph Martin. Directed by Charleroi’s choir director, Richard Carson, the choir features members from the host church and various churches around the Mon Valley. The Annual Tasting Party will follow. Admission is free.
The Old Christmas Family Celebration will be held Sunday December 20, 2015 at 4 p.m. The program will feature talents of the church. These include various Sunday School classes, church families and individuals. Following this event, refreshments will be available along with a visit from Santa.
The candlelight Christmas Eve service on Thursday, December 24, 2015 will be at 7:30 p.m. A meditation and Christmas hymn will be sung as each advent candle is lit. After communion, each person’s candle is lit from the Christ candle and Silent Night will be sung with the lights dimmed.
Regular events during the month include Junior Church weekly for children ages 3-9 during the worship service. We also have a group called MOPS (Mothers of Pre Schoolers) that meet twice a month. And on the second Wednesday of the month there is potluck dinner at 6 p.m. for anyone who wants to attend.
