Every year the Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Pittsburgh typically visits each church in his diocese. The visits afford him a chance to speak to and with the members of the congregations, while it also presents him with an opportunity to administer the sacraments of baptism and confirmation, as well as the reaffirmation of vows.
Bishop Dorsey McConnell |
This year Bishop Dorsey McConnell will be welcomed to St. David's on March 1st. The date is of special significance since it is the feast day of the Welsh patron St. David, for whom the church on East McMurray Road is named. To mark the saint's day, daffodils (the national flower of Wales and of David) will be placed on the altar and Welsh music will be used during the service.
The Reverend McConnell will celebrate the service and be assisted by St. David's priest, the Reverend Kris McInnes. Following the service, the bishop will speak to the congregation and participate in an an informal question and answer period.
After refreshments, Bishop McConnell will conclude his visit by meeting with St. David's Vestry. Again this year Fr. Kris McInnes and the parishioners warmly anticipate this chance to spend the morning with the bishop.
