Andrew Obringer Receives the Julie Funtal Scholarship Grant

Graduating seniors from local high schools who are part of the St. Francis family were honored during a Baccalaureate Mass at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Finleyville on Sunday June 9.

Graduating seniors from local high schools who are part of the St. Francis family were honored during a Baccalaureate Mass at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Finleyville on Sunday June 9.

Ms. Carol Cicci introduced each graduate and spoke briefly on their high school experience and about their plans for the future. She also presented each of the students with a gift from the Parish. All of the graduates were planning on post high school education. Father Robert Boyle was assisted at Mass by Deacon Vic Satter and both expressed their congratulations to each of the graduates.

Each year, one graduating senior from the St. Francis Parish is selected on the basis of academic achievement and service to the church and community to receive the Julie Funtal Scholarship Grant. The grant is a monetary award for post high school education given by the Columbiettes and Knights of Columbus of St. Francis Church in memory of past Columbiette President Julie Funtal. At the Baccalaureate Ceremony this year’s winner was announced to be Andrew Obringer. A check was presented to Andrew which will be used to assist with his college expenses at Penn State Behrand. Andrew Graduated from Ringgold High School with high honors for all four years, is an Eagle Scout, Scored “All Advanced” on PSSA Exams
Over the years, the young men and women from the St Francis Family, graduating from various local high schools have been outstanding students, well-prepared for post high schooling and life in general. This year’s graduates continue that tradition. These mini bios are note-worthy.
Sarah Davis (Ringgold)
Sarah graduated from Ringgold with highest honors, She is close to achieving the Girl Scout Gold Award and will attend Indiana University of Pennsylvania studying nutrition.
Aaron Davis (Ringgold)
Aaron graduated from Ringgold High School with high honors and was awarded the Fox Educational Scholarship. He earned Boy Scouting’s highest award – the Eagle Award. Aaron will be attending Slippery Rock University.
Alexandria (Ali) Dimoff (Home-Schooled)
Ali will attend Penn State Behrend in the fall where she will major in education and continue to play soccer. Ali was also an Altar Server at St. Francis.
Mackenzie R. Janda (Ringgold)
Mackenzie graduated from Ringgold High School with highest honors and was “Student of the Month” during October, March and April of her senior year. She earned the “Certificate of Achievement” awarded by the Ringgold Rams Club. She was nominated for the Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizens Award. Mackenzie will be attending the University of Pittsburgh (Greensburg Campus) majoring in Biology/Pre-Med aiming at future study in Pediatrics.
Rose Jasko (Ringgold)
Rose received the “American Legion Award” and the “Outstanding Young Citizens Award”. She was Vice President of the Student Council, President of the National Honors Society and Co-Valedictorian of her graduating class. Rose will be attending Penn State University on a full ROTC scholarship majoring in Aerospace Engineering. She plans to become an officer in the United States Air Force. Rose was also an Altar Server at St. Francis.
Rhiannon Lewis (Seton-La Salle Catholic High School)
Rhiannon graduated from Seton-La Salle with highest honors for all four years. She received the “Congressional Leaders of Tomorrow Award “ and the “PHEAA Certificate of Merit”. Rhiannon played Varsity Soccer and Lacrosse and was named a U.S Lacrosse Academic All-American. She also was named to the WPIAL Lacrosse Section 1 All Star Team. She was also Co-Captain of her Varsity Lacrosse team.
As if not busy enough, Rhiannon participated in concert band, was the Voice of the Rebel Marching Band, a member of the Liturgy Choir, was a Eucharistic Minister, participated in “Academic Games” was a member of “Junior Achievement”, the National Honor Society, the National English Honor Society, and was treasurer of “Rebels for Life”. She also served as Student Tutor.
At St. Francis she was an Altar Server and an active member of the St. Francis High School Ministry. She was a winner of the Knights of Columbus State Scholarship which will be applied toward her Attendance at Duquesne University where she will be in the Physician Assistant Program.
Tyler Mackenzie (Ringgold)
Tyler graduated from Ringgold High School with high honors. As a result of his high academic standing, he was awarded a Robert Morris University Merit Scholarship. He will be attending Robert Morris University in the fall to major in Accounting

Michael Rizzo (Ringgold)
Michael, due to an excellent academic record at Ringgold has been accepted to Point Park University. Michael’s goal is a degree in Civil Engineering.
