St. Nicholas Orthodox Church, located on Sixth Street in Monongahela, announces their Christmas and Epiphany services. The parish retains the ancient Julian calendar in the observance of feast days and will observe Christmas - the Nativity of Christ - on Monday, January 7.
Christmas services include:
Sunday, January 6
10:00 a.m. - Divine Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom followed by Sunday School
6:45 p.m. - Christmas Carols
7:00 p.m. - Great Compline and Matins
Monday, January 7
10:00 a.m. - Divine Liturgy of St. Basil the Great with responses by St. Nicholas Youth Choir. Social hour follows.
Great Feast of Epiphany - the Baptism of Christ
The parish will observe the Great Feast of Epiphany - the Baptism of Christ on Saturday, January 19. The Epiphany services include:
Friday, January 18
8:30 a.m. - Vespers and the Divine Liturgy of St. Basil the Great
6:00 p.m. - Holy Supper in the church hall
7:30 p.m. - Great Compline and the Great Blessing of Water
Saturday, January 19
9:00 a.m. - Divine Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom
The parish priest, Very Rev. Edward Pehanich, will visit the homes of parishoners on Saturday and Sunday January 19-20 for the Epiphany Blessing of Homes.
