St. John the Baptist Byzantine made the following announcements.

St. John the Baptist Byzantine Holds Christmas Craft/Bake Sale

St. John the Baptist Byzantine Catholic Church, 201 E. Main Street, Uniontown, is holding its annual Christmas Craft and Bake Sale on Saturday, December 2 from noon to 5 p.m. and on Sunday, December 3 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the upstairs school hall.

The many craft items have been made by St. John’s Ethnic Craft Club and include wooden items such as indoor and outdoor wooden decorations, Santas, trees, snowmen, window stars, wreaths, wreaths, and door decorations, as well as assorted holiday and craft and gift items. Also available are tree ornaments of different types including some with icons or pysanky designs, imported items which include embroideries, icons, and other folk art from Slovakia and Ukraine.

Available once again is the parish cookbook, “Carpathian Cookery,” now in its 17th printing. Its new look is in a computerized format and has a plastic protective cover. Also available is a wide assortment of delicious baked goods, which includes long rolls (nut, poppyseed, apricot, and pineapple cottage cheese), small kolachy (pastries filled with nut, poppyseed, and apricot), filled cookie cups, breads, molded candy, and many varieties of cookies, and much more.

The Nativity display will be shown. There is no admission charge. Parking is in the back, which is handicap-accessible. For information, call the church office 724-438-6027 (M-F) from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. and leave a message.

St. John the Baptist Byzantine Cookbooks Available

The “Carpathian Cookery” cookbook is once again available for sale. The 330-page cookbook has a new look and features a protective plastic cover. The book includes sections on Christmas and Easter customs and recipes, traditional Rusyn and Slavic foods, other ethnic dishes, and many other tried-and-true recipes of St. John’s parishioners. The cost of the cookbook is $14 plus $4 postage and handling ($18). If ordering from Canada, please send a $27 U.S. postal money order payable in U.S. dollars to reflect the difference in the exchange rate and postage cost.
