St. John the Baptist Byzantine Catholic Church, 201 E. Main Street, Uniontown, is holding its annual Christmas Craft and Bake Sale on Saturday, December 3 from 12 to 5 p.m. and on Sunday, December 4 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the upstairs school hall.
The many craft items have been made by St. John’s Ethnic Craft Club and include indoor and outdoor wooden decorations, Santas, trees, snowmen, window stars, wreaths and door decorations, as well as assorted holiday and craft and gift items. Also available are tree ornaments of different types and imported items from Slovakia and Ukraine.
A bake sale includes long rolls (nut, poppyseed, apricot, and pineapple cottage cheese), small kolachy (pastries filled with nut, poppyseed, and apricot), filled cookie cups, breads, molded candy, and many varieties of cookies, and much more.
Parking is in the back which, is handicap-accessible. For information, call the church office at 724-208-6771 from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.
Cookbooks Available at St. John Byzantine
Available once again is the parish cookbook, “Carpathian Cookery,” now in its 18th printing, selling over 16,000 copies. Its new look is in a computerized format and has a plastic protective cover.
The book includes sections on Christmas and Easter customs and recipes, traditional Rusyn and Slavic foods, other ethnic dishes, and many other tried-and-true recipes of St. John’s parishioners. The cost of the cookbook is $14 plus $4 postage and handling ($18).
