Charleroi Borough Meeting August 7, 2013
“We’ve noticed a difference – there is less loitering and less undesirable activity in the area,” said Charleroi Borough Manager Donn Henderson, of the current Zero Tolerance Zone, which is located 5th to 8th Avenue along Fallowfield Avenue in Charleroi. The Borough began the program which consists of increased code enforcement, police patrol, lighting and crime watch in a designated area for six months to a year.
Charleroi increased the present Zero Tolerance Zone to include 7th through 9th street and Lincoln. Demolitions are also a priority in the Zero Tolerance Zone which is aimed at cleaning up the area and preventing and deterring crime in some of the Borough’s busiest and more troublesome area.

Mayor Nancy Ellis wished to thank the Borough, the Veteran's Administration, The American Legion and everyone who played a part in housing and situating a disabled veteran who arrived in Charleroi by bus last month. “We made calls and pitched in to help him get his bearings. He’s now living comfortably in 5th Avenue Place,” she stated.
Charleroi is continuing its participation in the Mid Mon Valley Regional Enterprize Zone and also its cooperation agreement with Mon Valley Progress Council. The programs are aimed at developing business in the region and providing tax incentive programs for business owners.
A tax change refund was approved in the amount of $12,952.53 to the Mon Valley Regional Chamber of Commerce for county approved decreases in assessed values from the years 2007 -2012.
Arrangements were made and approved for the Borough to purchase and demolish a structure having an associated gas well for reasons of safety.
Accessible parking space applications were approved for 128 Fallowfield Avenue and for the 200 block of McKean Avenue.
In the works, are plans for Charleroi to honor recently retired council member Harry Reis and also a possible ordinance to deter the feral cat population from growing in the Borough.
Charleroi continues to take part in “Revive Meetings” which are aimed at possible developments for Mon Valley Riverfront property.
The Borough plans to take part in the upcoming Prescription Drug Problem Seminar sponsored by Gosai and Ghandi at the Charleroi High School.
