Monessen Council Meeting July 17, 2013
Monessen held its monthly City Council meeting on July 17, 2013. During the meeting Mayor Mary Jo Smith announced the following board reappointments:
• Charles Urbanowicz to the Mon Valley Refuse Authority effective January 1, 2014 for a five year term
• Candis Kelley and Madeline Dudas to the Monessen Public Library Board effective January 1, 2014 for three year terms
• Jean Fisher to the Property Maintenance Board of Review effective January 1, 2014 for a five year term
• George Shusta to the Zoning Board of Appeal effective retroactively on June 1, 2013 for a three year term
Mayor Smith disclosed that all of the people reappointed were the only applicants for those positions.
During the meeting, Council also approved the retirement of Stanley T. Marinos, Jr. effective August 1, 2013 from the Streets Department. A request from resident James Vetere was approved for a handicapped spot in front of his home.
Councilman Dudas read a letter received by Council from Vicky Rice of the Union Baptist Church expressing appreciation to the city for their participation and support of the church’s Family Day held at City Park.
Mayor Smith announced that as of Monday, July 22, 2013 all delinquent garbage bills from 2003 through 2012 will be posted on the Monessen website. Lastly, the Mayor proclaimed Saturday, July 27, 2013, as “The Monessen High School Class of 1963 Day” as requested by Norma Morris. City Clerk Rosalie Nicksich is also a member of that graduating class.
