After opening and reading 2012 road material bids on April 12, the Nottingham Township Board of Supervisors awarded those bids at their regular April 15 meeting. Also included were bids for diesel fuel and sign materials.

The award for plastic pipe went to Advanced Drainage. Purchases will include metal sign posts and PennDOT sign from Chemung Supply through the Washington County Joint Purchasing Council bid. Getting the low bid for diesel fuel was Cohen Oil. Included in the awards for aggregates and emulsions were Laurel Aggregates, Hanson Aggregates, Russell Standard and Younghold Paving.

In another matter, the board scheduled a public hearing and authorized advertisement for a petition to rezone property of Scott Welsbacher, 176 Patterson Road. The request was made by Amerikohl Mining, Inc. for Welsbacher to rezone the property from R-1, Rural Residential, to A-1, Agricultural. This will enable Amerikohl to surface mine coal on the 86.6-acre property located on Patterson and Gilkeson Roads. The company is already operating on the nearby Sanns property off the lower end of Valley View Road.

The petition to rezone was referred to the Nottingham Township Planning Commission, the Washington County Planning Commission, Planning Consultant Roberta Sarraf and Widmer Engineers for their review and comment. The public hearing will be held on June 3 during the Board of Supervisors regular meeting.

In a related matter, the supervisors acknowledged receipt of correspondence from Earthtech, Inc., for Amerikohl Mining, Inc. The letter gave notification that an application has been sent to the state DEP for a surface mine permit revision for the Sanns property to add the adjoining Opeka property in order to remove coal.
