At the regular Pleasant Hills Council meeting on Monday, March 18, Council passed a motion to accept a grant of $17,500 from SHACOG (South Hills Area Council of Governments) to rebuild the ADA ramps at the municipal building.
At the regular Pleasant Hills Council meeting on Monday, March 18, Council passed a motion to accept a grant of $17,500 from SHACOG (South Hills Area Council of Governments) to rebuild the ADA ramps at the municipal building.
The preliminary estimates on the project total $98,000 and they applied for more, but “something is better than nothing”, noted Councilman Walter Trimbath.
Council also passed a motion to approve a three month extension to finalize the Service Agreement between the Pleasant Hills Authority Board and contracting municipalities. A meeting was held March 25 to discuss the last draft of the agreement. The existing agreement will remain in effect until a new one is finalized and accepted by all parties.
Borough Solicitor Fred Jug requested a motion to file an application to receive grant funds from the Redevelopment Authority of Allegheny County (RAAC). The motion passed unanimously.
Panic alarms for use by the school secretaries are being installed in all schools to increase safety precautions. Newly appointed councilman Regis Brown worked with the school board to make this happen. Councilman Robert Karcher also announced that all of the cameras in the parks are now fully functioning.
Baldwin EMS announced they will be continuing the Safe Children program the anonymous donation of a past resident. In addition, they were recognized by Joe Schmeider, State EMS Director, for the 33 programs they have done to promote the safety of young children as well as develop standards. They will be participating in a new certification program. “We’re very proud of this. To the best of my knowledge, we will be the first ambulance service in southwestern Pennsylvania to receive this new certification,” said Baldwin EMS Chief Bill Plunkett.
Baldwin EMS also reported for the month of February they had a 5.8 minute response time on 113 calls, with 79 of those life threatening. The Fire Department reported 30 calls and has recently completed Hazmat Operations Training.
Council has been busy getting ready for spring maintenance. Motions were passed to authorize borough employees to get started on the road repair program for 2013 as well as a five-year program for storm sewer maintenance.
Public Announcements:
• The arboretum will be offering bird walks open to the public at 8 a.m. on April 14, 21, 28 and May 5 and 19. The arboretum is also looking to get a water source installed in the future.
• The new Pleasant Hills Municipal website is up and running. Check it out at www.pleasanthillspa.org.
• Applications for summer employment are now being accepted for the summer recreation program, public works department and treatment plant. They are available online or at the borough building.
• A public meeting to discuss the draft amendment to the sign ordinance will be held at 6:45 p.m. on Monday, April 15, prior to the regular 7 p.m. council meeting.
