The March 2013 Monongahela council meeting began with Mayor Bob Kepics calling it to order with the Pledge of Allegiance, then roll call.

The Mayor wanted to acknowledge the Honorable Judge Paul Simmons by saying a few kind words. Councilman Thomas Caudill recited from a book of highlights to honor him. He said that he was the first African-American male judge to go on to become District Judge for the Western United States District of PA. “I felt it only fitting that we go on to recognize him more,” he said

City Clerk Carole Foglia read from a large plaque, then presented it to Simmons' wife Gwen in honor of Black History Month.

Next on the agenda were speakers from Cougar Land Services representing Seismic Surveys. They were Jessica Carpenter, Community Advisor, and Doug Garrett, Project Manager. They said they do Seismic Surveys for mapping of the subsurface, for the need to know the depth of an area.

Cougar Land Services is the permitting agent for the EQT. The work involved will help determine the most efficient way to develop natural gas reserves with the fewest number of wells.

Garrett said the company has already received permits in Forward Township, and will do similar testing in New Eagle, Clairton, Jefferson Hills and South Park.
