Monessen City Council approved a variety of events to be held this year during their monthly meeting, held on March 20, 2013, including the following:

• A request of Monessen Communities that Care to use the City Park amphitheater, park grounds, pavilions, and concession stand for their 2nd annual Raise Your Voice Festival on April 27 from 2:00 to 8 p.m.
• A request of Southwest Behavioral Care to hold their annual summer therapeutic program, Camp Harmony, at the Monessen City Park on June 17-28 at Shelter 2, July 8-19 at Shelters 1 & 2, and July 29 – August at Shelters 1 & 2 (week days only) from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
• A request from the Monessen Police Department and K-9 Units to utilize the boat dock area for their annual Bike Run Fundraiser on Saturday, July 20 (Rain date, August 3, 2013). The Bike Run will end at the boat dock and will include a car cruise, food, and entertainment.
• A request of the Monessen Historical Society to use the Monessen City Park August 17-18 for their 2nd annual Founders Day and Civil War reenactment.
• A request from Marei J. Burnfield for the use of City Park Walking Track on Sunday, October 13 from 8a.m. – 5 p.m. for the 2nd annual 2 Million Dogs 2 Miles Puppy Up Walk.
Also during the meeting it was approved by Council to advertise for bids for safety renovation of the building at 500 Donner Avenue. The nuisance property has been the cause of multiple complaints by Monessen residents in regards to public safety.
Council accepted the retirement of Lt. Lloyd Aldrich after 40 years of service on the Monessen Police force and his name was added to the Prisoner Watch list.
Lastly, a resolution was adopted endorsing and supporting efforts to increase funding for transportation and encourage the Governor and General Assembly to cooperate to accomplish long-term improvement within the Commonwealth.
