Although Ian is not much interested in politics, he liked the idea of being Junior Mayor.
“I like being involved in the community and knowing what is going on,” he said. Ian became interested in community activity mainly from his father Robert Whiting, who is the Charleroi fire chief. So when high school principal Patty Mason approached him with the idea, he was enthusiastic.
Duties of the Junior Mayor are to be a student liason to the school district, to learn about the Regional Polce and to plan and help implement Student Government Day, as of which no date has been set yet.
The Junior Mayor program was started last year. Alex Antonio was the previous junior mayor.
