Twp. supervisors approved Fort Cherry Ambulance service to be the new provider during their monthly meeting held February 27.
Thomas Bruce, president of the ambulance service compan y, appeared before supervisors and told residents attending the meeting that Fort Cherry Ambulance Service had taken over the former Bentworth Ambulance Service routes at the beginning of the week. He also said full service will be available 24/7 to township residents.
Bruce said all former employees of Bentworth Ambulance Service have been retained.
“We have a staff of 60 people, and we operate ambulance services in McDonald, Houston, and now Fallowfield,” Bruce stated. “We are going to stay in the garage located off of (Route) 917, where there will be a crew staffed 24 hours a day. There are two ambulances that will be available there, in addition to wheelchair van service, which was not offered before.”
Bruce said new members of the ambulance service will be introducing themselves to the community over the coming weeks. All Fort Cherry Ambulance Service employees wear white shirts and black trousers.
Bruce said his company runs approximately 10,000 ambulance calls each year, and has reciprocal agreements with other regional ambulance services.
Bruce said all subscribers to the former Bentworth Ambulance Service will be taken over by his service. “All subscriptions will be honored through the end of the period they were purchased.”
In other business, supervisors voted to expand the Parks & Recreation Board from 5 to 7 members and appointed residents Cindy Kemp and Paul Shawley to fill the additional seats. Supervisors also appointed Bruce Smith to fill a seat on the twp. Planning Commission. Supervisors will announce next month the length of the new appointees’ terms, once they determine when current board members’ terms expire to assure terms that overlap.
In other business, supervisors voted to advertise for bids for paving stone and asphalt, and voted to advertise for bids for diesel fuel. Supervisors will also seek bids for the purchase of a fireproof safe to store township records. Supervisors plan to spend no more than $3,000 for the safe.
Supervisors also approved the appointment of Keystone Collections Group to collect delinquent LST and EIT taxes, replacing PAMS, whose contract expired December 31 2012.
Supervisors also are considering the purchase of a new truck for the road department, and plan to seek a mechanic’s opinion on whether to replace a twp. tractor with a boom mower.
