The long running and now completed Donora Place Plan Sewage Extension Project has been a success – mostly. As a result of the work completed by the contractor, Fleming-Walker of Portersville, PA, thirteen residents have complained of damage that was not repaired.
Donora Borough Administrator Dennis Fisher said that Fleming-Walker will not be paid in full until the problems are resolved.
Borough officials have responded swiftly by inspecting all thirteen properties along with a field representative from Fleming-Walker in the days following the Jan. 10 regular council meeting.
According to Fisher, all of the complaints are being resolved or have since been resolved. The borough takes this matter seriously, and wanted to make certain that every problem is corrected.
Also at the meeting, Council received a complaint by a resident concerning the safety of the mixture the borough uses to maintain streets in the winter months. Resident Rick Harlack expressed concern that the river sediments mixed with road salt may contain hazardous compounds.
Borough officials have since contacted the Army Corps. of Engineers – who also utilize the dredged material – to verify the safety of the sediment. Council was informed that the material is tested on an on-going basis (every 20 days) for safety.
In other business:
• Council approved the purchase of a 2001 Chevrolet 4x4 Suburban SUV for $4,553.50 by the Donora Police Department for use as a police cruiser.
• Council reappointed PNCBank of Donora as the depository of all funds.
• Residents are reminded that refuse collection invoices were mailed to Donora
residents on Mon., Dec. 31, 2012. Anyone who did not receive the invoice or who noted an error in billing is asked to notify the Borough Administration Offices at 724-379-6600.
