The South Park Township Board of Supervisors held their regular meeting on June 12 at 7 p.m.

The Board began with a presentation of proclamation to the Montour Trail Council. Supervisor Ed Snee read the proclamation, stating that the Montour Trail Council has been awarded as the 2017 Trail of the Year by the Dept. of Conservation and Natural Resources.
Snee stated, “The Montour Trail Council has dedicated countless hours of service, clearing right-of-ways, filling gaps and rehabilitating or replacing major structures to the trail and whereas, the Montour Trail Council is to be commended for the tireless commitment of its members who work as a cohesive group to enhance and promote the trail as a wonderful, regional asset, and whereas, the Montour Trail Council began with a vision that has grown into not only a robust organization, but has led to the preservation of the trail as a valuable resource available to public enjoyment.”
Following the presentation, the president of the Montour Trail Council, Ned Williams, spoke. He thanked the Board for all their support and presented them with one of the posters that was given to him, as a result of the Montour Trail being named Trail of the Year.
The Board continued with the meeting, discussing the following topics.
Preliminary and final approval was granted to the minor land development identified as the Smoker Self-Storage Plan, for the project located at 2900 Piney Fork Rd., which is contingent on several conditions imposed by the Township of South Park.
The property at 3114 Southern Dr. has been declared a public nuisance.
The public hearing regarding the planned residential development on Sowden Rd. is to be continued to Aug. 14 at 6 p.m.
A bond in the amount of $7,700 has been released for the installation and preservation of the sanitary sewer line at the Historical Society Museum.
A hearing will take place regarding the amendment of an ordinance that will address transit oriented overlay development zoning regulations, on August 14 at 6:30 p.m.
Invoice No. 2, in the amount of $6,274, for the Cardox Stormwater Improvements, was approved, with a balance of $2,600, which will be paid out of community development grant funding.
The first payment request from Victor Paving and Construction, in the amount of $428,441.27, was approved for the 2017 'Restoration of Various Streets' project.
The Board made mention of two new hires. Robert J. Buddick was hired for part-time litter collection and Nathaniel Morton was hired as a part-time senior summer recreation counselor for the 2017 Summer Recreation Program.
The Township’s part-time library page, Laura Sensabaugh, has resigned, with her last day being retroactive to May 20, 2017.
Several training requests were approved for one or more of the Township’s police officers to attend the following trainings: “Overdose Response Training for Municipal Police and Emergency Medical Services Personnel;” a training on tactical shooting; “Energy Methods and Damage Analysis in Traffic Reconstruction,” a motor carrier safety assistance program training; and Chief Dennis McDonough will be attending the annual Pennsylvania Chiefs of Police Association and Training Conference.
Township Manager, Karen Fosbaugh, gave her MS4 report towards the end of the meeting, which deals with proper stormwater drainage. To make mention of a few points in the report, the Township repaired six storm inlets in May and has completed the inlet mapping survey. They have also met with residents of Maple Drive with regards to a stormwater drainage issue on Conner Drive. The residents have been offered the opportunity to connect into a proposed stormwater drainage line on Conner Dr. at their own cost and installation will be done by the Township this season. The Township has also put together an MS4 informational display in the municipal building lobby so residents can learn more about MS4.
