Amends is a story of friendship, freedom and the possibilities of forgiveness. The result of a vicious crime against one of the two casts Meghan and April together at a deserted bus stop late one night in Chicago. They form a bond of friendship by fate. Both are nurses by profession and, through their evolving closeness, help to heal one another of past heartfelt wounds. However, as they share their stories, an unearthed memory threatens to destroy everything they build.
Caldwell says this book is written from a first-person perspective and names the chapters after the four main characters, imitating the style of one of his favorite modern novelists, Jodi Picoult. The twists unfolded in the final two chapters will delight avid readers accustomed to this technique and challenge causal readers to choose how to resolve remaining doubts about the past recollection. Moreover the interpersonal dialogue with the ebb and flow of the sub-plots follows the writing of another well liked author, Nicholas Sparks.
Amends is available in both print and digital formats online at Amazon.com and Creatspace.com. The paperback lists for $9.95. The e-book can be pre-ordered at I-Books (sample pages) or Barnes & Noble (Nook) for $1.99 until the release date of May 29, 2016 when the price will double. At all the sites, one can search either by title or author.
