Belle Vernon resident James L. Gallina celebrated his 100th birthday on May 2, 2013. Gallina was born in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario Canada on May 2, 1913.

He was the fourth oldest of ten children. During the depression he moved to Pittsburgh, to live with his aunt and uncle and find work. He was drafted in the US Army in December 1942 and became a US citizen the following June. After the war he stayed in PA and began working at Continental Can Co. He worked there for 30 years, and lived all that time in the YMCA. Upon retirement he moved to Belle Vernon.
Gallina has many nieces and nephews living in Canada and the USA. He also has a sister, Gemma, 92 years old living in Sault Ste. Marie Ontario Canada.
Gallina's neighbors and friends held a 100th birthday celebration for him on Saturday, May 4. In attendance at the party were 47 relatives from out of town and 12 close neighbors and friends. His sister and two other nieces were even on Skype with him! A wonderful time was had by all.
Gallina was the most gracious, appreciative guest of honor He didn’t miss one minute of his celebration. He enjoyed all the stories, pictures and reminiscing.
