Long-time Union Township resident Millicent Powell received the "Grainger of the Year" award at their April 19 open house meeting.

The award is presented to a Ginger Hill Grange member that has shown outstanding performance toward the goals of the organization which are considerably different today than its early years. Today the Grange promotes strong family life, fellowship, patriotism, and community service.

Millie has been a Grange member since 1978. If you’ve ever bought a funnel cake at a local carnival or fair, then you’ve most likely met Millie and some of her fellow Grangers. The Ginger Hill Grange mobile funnel cake trailer is a

popular stop at summer events. The Grange raises funds for worthy causes in the community and Millie has been in the forefront of its activities year after year. She’s also been active in other community roles. She’s been on the Union Township Agricultural Security Advisory Committee for many years, is a member of the Union Township Zoning/Hearing Board and worked for several years on the Finleyville Community Center Board of Directors. She’s also an active member of the Mingo Presbyterian Church.
