Like many in the south hills area, the Caldwell family of South Park has vacationed over the past number years at Topsail Island in North Carolina, just north of Wilmington.

The TI bumper stickers are plentiful in our area. Jim Caldwell chose the familiar beach haven as the setting of his latest novel, Sky.
Those familiar with the island will enjoy reading about the piers like Sea View and Jolly Roger. The book’s cover has an actual picture of the very popular Surf City fishing pier directly across the other side from the swing bridge past Max’s Pizza. They will recognize places and sounds unique to Topsail such as The Karen Beasley Turtle Hospital, the remaining towers from Operation Bumblebee and the helicopter training exercises from nearby Camp Lejuene in Jacksonville.
Sky, Caldwell’s fifth published novel is a story about a little girl who may grab your heart and not let go; a story of love lost and love found; a story of friendships, old and new, and how parenthood upends all that you thought life was about in your youth.
A great beach book for your own favorite summer vacation spot, Sky is available in paperback at Amazon; the Kindle version will follow in August. Or you can visit: jrcaldwellnovels.com for information on all his books.
