The Charthene Club met at Armando’s Restaurant on November 2, 2017. President Barbara Pepper opened the dinner meeting and welcomed members and guests.

For our “acts of kindness” in November, the club presented veteran Barry Brinker with tray of cookies, which he will take to the American Legion. On Saturday November 25, members will be handing out treats to the children after they have has a visit with Santa.
Youth and Education Chairperson Mareen Lindsay announced that Emily La Carte has been chosen as the November Girl of the Month. Emily is a senior at Charleroi Area High School, where she is a highest honor student and has been inducted into the NHS. She serves as vice president of the Class Executive Club and is the school board student representative for Student Council. She is involved in SADD, peer jury, Foreign Language Club, Symphonic Band, and is drumline captain for the marching band. She was chosen for the 2017 Homecoming Court and was the February Rotary Student of the Month.
Emily is very involved in the community. She has volunteered at blood drives, cleanup days, Relay for Life, the American Heart Walk, coat drives, toy drives, Day of Hope, and the Joe Perotta Pinto Tournament, and she has served as a ski coach for Special Olympics.
She plans to attend Penn State University to major in business and aspires to be a member of Penn State University Blue Band. Emily is employed by Model Cleaners of Charleroi.
Mareen Lindsay announced that Sierra Short has been selected as the December Girl of the Month. Sierra is a senior at Charleroi Area High School and has been inducted into the NHS. She serves as president of the senior class, participates in the peer jury, Class Executive Club, Interact Club,
REACH gifted program, SADD, varsity basketball, track, and volleyball.
Sierra is also very involved in the community. She has volunteered with Charleroi Area Reading Camp, Humane Society Food Drive, Joe Perotta Memorial Foundation, and Relay for Life and is a peer tutor.
She plans to attend Seton Hill University to become a physician assistant.
