Monessen Public Library & Cultural Center is celebrating its 80th year of service to Monessen and the Mon Valley during 2016. There will be special events and commemorations to celebrate the Library’s contribution to the Mon Valley throughout the year.
For those looking to read local newspapers, Monessen Public Library & Cultural Center has subscriptions to the following local newspapers:

These newspapers can be read at the Library to keep abreast of local news and obituaries.
The Library also is a distribution place for the free monthly copies of the South Hills-Mon Valley Messenger and the California Focus.
The Winter Preschool Storytime program has resumed. Join us on Monday, March 14, 2016, at 6 p.m. for a St. Patrick’s Day Storytime and craft. On March 21, there will be an Easter Story Time and craft at 6 p.m.
The Mon Valley Genealogy Forum will meet on Monday, March 21, 2016 at 5:30 p.m. Light refreshments will be served. New members welcome! The group will discuss “Genealogy” in the news and cover new web sites for research.
The Technology Classes previously scheduled for January have been rescheduled for the month of March. Gina McGrath, who is the Technology Director for the Westmoreland YWCA, will be teaching technology classes on the following date:
March 19, 2016 – 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. – Keeping up with Technology. Gina will provide updates in the world of technology and devices.
March 19, 2016 – 1 p.m. – 3 p.m. – Smart phones. Gina will focus only on Smart phones.
March 28, 2016 – 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. – “Q & A: Bring Your Own Devices.” Bring any technological device, and Gina will assist you in making it work!
If you need some good reading material during the winter season, please remember the Library has an ongoing book sale featuring fiction and nonfiction works. Hardbacks are fifty cents and paperbacks are twenty-five cents. What a bargain!
Monessen Public Library & Cultural Center will soon be introducing their new Children’s Coordinator. Stay tuned for upcoming and expanded children’s and teen programs and events as part of the Library’s 80th Anniversary celebrations!
